BlogSense to Blogger / Blogspot – Remote email publishing with Blogger

BlogSense is an automation software solution for self hosted WordPress blogs. One of the appeals of using BlogSense is the ability to remote publish to web2.0 sites like blogger.com, which can affectively help boost your rankings and increase your overall traffic exposure.

BlogSpot, aka Google’s Blogger, does not accept XML/RPC remote publishing, but it does accept email-to-publishing, which is a feature that BlogSense provides for each user created campaign.

In this video we see how we can access BlogSense to post remote content from a single page, rather than an rss feed, on the fly.

What we do:

Create a custom campaign.
Name it to something recognizable for future quick access.
Create a post-body template that will work well with broad sources.
Enable partial to full content via Five Filters.
Set any other settings and save the campaign and set it as inactive so it is not included in any automation.
When you are ready, open the campaign in Direct Import mode and paste the remote page’s URL in the RSS Feed input field and press Direct Import.
You should see a customized version of the remote content in a preview mode for editing, ready to be published at your command.

Hey guys,

This is a page designed to catched some search engine traffic. BlogSense now has the capabilities of importing CSV Files (Comma Delimited Format or something similar) into WordPress through the Drop Posting Module (Which is now the Drop Posting / CSV Import Module) . It works by taking a a csv file, drop in into your ftp folder called /my-csv-files/, which comes with your BlogSense installation, and then use the Import Section to target that files and schedule the content.

You can turn the columns into variables, and for each row of data create an arrangement of the content however you like using a customizable post template. It’s actually a lot easier to watch this feature in action.

Import Vimeo RSS into WordPress Blog with BlogSense

Recently BlogSense added support for Vimeo RSS. Vimeo’s RSS feed doesn’t naturally provide the embedded content in their RSS feeds, but they do provide information on the artist and a screenshot of the video. Google’s RSS Reader automatically builds the video… and this type of functionality was definitely possible with BlogSense.

A simple vimeo rss detection filter was added that automatically builds an embed out of the video link and adds it to the top of the RSS content. The results are not too bad, but not well formatted either. To make it perfect we have to do some trickery with BlogSense’s search and replace feature and theme CSS editing.

Add this now to your style.css template file:

float:right;

}

This will cause the thumbnail of the video to float to the right of the extra content that sits right under the video.

In efforts to provide the best tools available for re-syndication, a Email2RSS tool was developed and included in the new ‘RSS Tools’ section of BlogSense along with a modified version of the Five Filters class.

The email2rss class is POP3 driven and on most shared hosts you will find it difficult to read external pop3 accounts due to port blocking, but you will find zero trouble with email accounts created within your Cpanel.

Five filters is a powerful open source project that attempts to discover the full content of partial content RSS feeds. It is a publicly offered service that can also be downloaded and self hosted. For BlogSense users a self hosted version of this tool has been included and modified to work with Google Alerts and also to ignore items that the five filters class was unable to source properly

There are three options you can perform on content when creating campaigns:

Link Stripping – strip out all links and leave only the anchor text.
Link Converting – Make a tag out of the anchor text, and replace the original link with a tag search on the anchor text.
Link Converting – Replace the original links with site-wide searches of the anchor text (Great for SEO).
